Having been around the Law of Attraction for a long time now I have over the years watched the film The Secret many times! I love its optimism and positive take on how the law of attraction works and most of the teachers on there are my hero’s.
However, whilst the process offered in the movie is sound and the message from all of the teachers pretty consistent, we don’t always get what we ask for every time and there may be a couple of good reasons for this depending on your views of this material.
One reason, that is suggested by spiritual texts such as A Course in Miracles and Ho’oponopono for example, is that we don’t really know what is best for ourselves anyway and therefore if the Divine understands something is not in our best interest and could actually cause us more problems in our development, (we are not ready for it) then as the Divine is Love, it would not send us something that would hurt us. After all, as Norretranders tells us (in his book The User Illusion) the conscious mind only has a very narrow view of the world and can handle only a small amount of data at any one time, making its judgments pretty inconsistent and unreliable (how often are we wrong!)
The other main reason comes down to internal resistance, our beliefs, values and attitudes or basically the rubbish stuff buried in our subconscious a lot of which was put there when we were young with much added since, depending on our life experiences.
The problem with this ‘stuff’ is that it is ‘fixed’ in there, and when we introduce a new idea and one that challenges our current view or paradigm of what is normal, or what Bob Proctor calls a ‘Y’ idea and we repeatedly offer it to the subconscious the unconscious buried resistance can and will scupper our efforts. Why? Because our new ‘Y’ idea is not in accord with what we have believed to this point, and maybe for all our life so far.
For example, I decide I want a significant sum of money and have been relatively poor up to now. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this being a desire, and totally is understandable. However, as many lottery winners will tell you, suddenly coming into a large sum of money is great, but without changing how you feel, think and act around money, means you are not sticky to money, and much like many of these lottery winners you won’t keep hold of it and end up back where you started.
Why is this? Well, because you have resistance through your beliefs, values, attitudes, feelings and actions and whatever stuff is buried in your views of the world about money, in your subconscious. Such ‘memories’ or data in the subconscious certainly have the power to get in the way of making this jump and will resist you being able to change because what you are asking for is not in alignment with who you believe you are and perhaps the value system you live to.
I am not saying this kind of miracle doesn’t happen, I know sometimes these miraculous shifts do happen; however, the problem with movies like The Secret they don’t really address that at times the Universe knows best and that delays are not necessarily denials. This plus that because our conscious minds are so narrow in their view we give up because we don’t get the results as quickly as we would like.
As Bob Proctor says, you have got to Let Go and Let God, which means doing the process repeatedly, trusting the Universe has your back, and sticking with it knowing it will come when YOU are ready and once again, we might think we are ready, BUT with the amount of data or memories, of which we are unaware in our subconscious mind being, we are actually not ready.
Therefore, to work on this here are some examples of actions you can take:
OK let's talk about the Law of Attraction...I know some people find it a bit 'out there' or woo woo but a not too hard look at your life will make it pretty evident that as Earl Nightingale says 'we become what we think about'.
Whilst some authors and teachers like Stephen Covey, Tony Robbins and indeed the wonderful Mr Nightingale, all of which are among my favourites, have not used the law by name, they are all (as are many others) in my view, using the underlying principles and process as a basis of promoting the benefits of self and personal development.
This process, which at its simplest means being proactive in deciding what you want, asking for it in the positive, seeing it and feeling like you have it already, being persistent and consistent in this, and taking consistent action to move you forward is tried and tested.
Of course there are others such as Bob Proctor, Bob Doyle, Rhonda Byrne, James Ray and Joe Vitale who are much more comfortable with talking about the law overtly but as you will notice in their books there is still a process which in most cases is not too different to the one I have just outlined.
What is important to understand is that everything is energy and therefore the law operates anyway, it is always 'on' - so if you think it either does not work or that it is inconsistent, then you are right - it is important to realise that your mixed results are because you are spending a lot of time with mixed thinking and feelings.
If we think about something enough (good or bad) that it creates a feeling, this then creates a vibration or frequency that resonates into the world that then provides the attraction or pull towards of what ever it is, to you.
You only have to think of the times you really wanted something a lot, then think about the process I have outlined above to realise that you got it because,
1) You really wanted it (in the positive)
2) You thought about it a lot and consistently (saw it)
3) You pretended you already had it (felt it)
4) You took repeated action to get it
All of this put you in the right frequency/energy/vibration that was then in resonance with your desire which then created the circumstances and conditions for it to start to move towards you.
Knowing this, let's use this wonderful ability we are blessed with for good and let go of the idea this stuff doesn't work.
It does and we all know it.
